Director of photography & camera operator — Cambodia & Southeast Asia
Based in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, I am available for camera operator and director of photography assignments across Southeast Asia and worldwide.
What I offer
I work as a camera operator and director of photography across broadcast documentary, current affairs, NGO, travel, corporate and feature film productions. I have extensive experience working as a sole operator and as part of larger production teams, and am fully adaptable to all shooting situations, from fast-moving documentary work to carefully lit interview setups, multicam corporate productions and feature length films.
How I work
On Private Dancer, a feature film shot on location in Cambodia, I served as director of photography and sole camera operator. Due to the demands of extensive low light and nighttime shooting, we chose the Sony A7S III recorded into an Atomos Ninja V in ProRes HQ, shooting in S-Log 3 for maximum dynamic range and latitude to grade in post. The A7S III's exceptional low light capability follows in the tradition of productions including The Creator, which used the Sony FX3 into a Ninja V, and A Complete Unknown, shot on the Sony Venice, both chosen for their ability to shoot in challenging conditions across multiple locations. Lighting was kept deliberately lightweight and portable, using LEDs that could be moved and tracked with the camera, reinforcing and shaping natural light rather than overpowering it.
For Conde Nast Traveller's Where the Chefs Eat and Ask a Local I served as director of photography on a multicam shoot using two Sony FX6s. Ensuring maximum efficiency in the field required careful preproduction planning, with each camera's role clearly defined before the shoot began. Both cameras were set up identically and colour balance was matched at each location throughout the shoot. To guarantee the cameras matched in post, we used an X-Rite ColorChecker Passport on set and recorded timecode into each camera via Deity TC-1 monitors. Each shot was slated so that even if there were any timecode discrepancies, the editor could match cameras using the colour checker as a reference. File naming was set up to identify the production and distinguish Camera A from Camera B throughout, eliminating any risk of overlap or confusion in post.
On the CNA Insider Funan Techo Canal documentary I operated a multicam setup across five days and multiple locations in Cambodia. The Sony FX6 was used as A-cam, predominantly shot handheld in line with CNA Insider's observational documentary style, while the Sony A7S III was mounted on a gimbal when not being used for interviews, giving me the flexibility to move quickly between cameras and configurations while working with my assistant throughout the shoot.
